Medhurst top scores as tbirds roll phoenix

The tbird family, one of the most popular bird species on the continent, is found in much of North America and its range extends into South America. A native of the tropics and tropical regions, tbirds are nocturnal animals that live in nests, and, as such, may be thought of as a breed of raptor.

In 2008, New England tbirders from around the U.S. gathered together for the New England Tagging, Taming & Research conference at the University of New Hampshire in Concord. The topic of tbird tagging, which was first put forth at the conference five years prior, was covered at great length in the annual magazine Tagging. The conference's speaker this year was Mary Todman of the North Ridge Mountain Bird Sanctuary and was a guest of the Taming and Research conference.

Taming Taming is the term used to describe one or more people taking a tbird's name (for example, Mary). To be a tamed tbird one must be trained so as to get on a tbird's good side. To get on a tbird's good side you must either treat the tbird as a friend, which means giving the tbird time to get along (see: "taming as a fun way to socialize," page 28 in the Taming & Research magazine) or treating the tbird as an enemy, which means making fun of them. Treating your tbird's friend with the appropriate attitude, and doing it in an intelligent and safe manner is an act of kindness. Taming requires a great deal of time and work, but this is one of the most difficult things you can do to your tbird! The following tips are designed to help teach you and the tbird a little bit of understanding about each other's behavior.

A friend, friend!

A tbird's good side is a friend, but not everyone will be a friend to a tbird (see: "taming as a fun way to socialize," page 28 in the Taming & Research magazine). Some people are not friends at all, which means that they simply enjoy having a tbird with whom they can share food, water, and play time.

You can start with your tbird first. Taming a tbird without giving it a name can be hard because the tbird's name can get quite personal and the tbird's good side can feel as if it's not really a tbird (see: "taming as a fun way to socialize," page 28 in the Taming & Research magazine). When taming a tbird first, it is best to get to know it beforehand. There is no need for a pet tbird, jus

Kelinni earns melbourne cup start for North Melbourne

Cummings and Tomlinson make their AFL debuts

Bennell's hamstring injury sets up a battle between Brayshaw and Brayshaw

GWS star Tom Lonergan is one of the youngest players to feature in a grand final, and he may very well have a chance to make his mark in Melbourne when the Giants take on the Cats on Sunday. The young midfielder looks to have been given the nod for the grand final, and will bring something different and different to his AFL debut with the Giants. Lonergan had plenty of experience in AFL, starting a number of senior games for St Kilda in 2016. In 2016 he collected two games for Fremantle where he registered six disposals and seven marks. The 31-year-old is also listed as a defender, and was an All Australian.

Tomlinson is a hard working midfielder who could feature as a surprise for his first grand final. The 22-year-old had a breakthrough season for Hawthorn in 2016 with 28 disposals in just 25 matches. He averaged 22 disposals and 19.5 hit-outs a match, but may have been overshadowed by the likes of Tom Rockliff, Jordan Lewis and Matt Priddis. His role may now revolve around his strong workrate in defence, which has been touted for years from his time at Carlton.

It is worth noting that although the Giants are already a strong side in the pre-season, they have made a few changes. They may be looking at players such as Jackson Trengove, Will Minson and Michael Hibberd, who may want to get their first games under their belt. The Giants have made a habit of making changes, as evidenced by two changes to their starting line-up for Saturday night's match against Port Adelaide after losing a big game at Etihad Stadium.

Bennett, who has played four years at Geelong, may be more confident having played 13 rounds after a difficult final term against Carlton in round 21, while Sam Gibson will be the team's next man up. At the moment, however, we will be happy just seeing a couple of the young midfielders in action. If Tomlinson can continue to develop his skills and provide a different option for the Giants to use in front of a younger team, it will be a really interesting game and it is hard to see any team better suited to win it.

MEDICAL ROOM

North Melbourne: The Kangaroos lost three key members of their frontline line-up to injury against St Kilda, and have named their 23 men for Saturday night's match, with Tom Lynch and Sam Gilbert expected to be the first pair. In addition to Tomlinso

Falling copper prices impact on miners profits The mining industry faces a new and difficult challenge. The fall in coal prices, which began on November 4, 2017, has already reduced the profits of Australian coalminers by more than $1 billion, according to the Department of Finance. This loss of profit has been compounded by falling mining investment levels. For this and other reasons, Australian coalmining companies have reacted with growing distress at the prospect of the falling price of the commodity. Mining company executives are beginning to realise they need to cut spending more effectively and, in turn, reduce their dividend. Over the past two years, it has been estimated that Australia's mining dividend in 2016-17 rose from $1.75 billion to an average dividend of $1.40 per share. A quarter of the industry's total mining profits will have to be clawed back by 2016-17, when the dividend on the 2016-17 year ended July 31 falls below 0.5 per cent of its peak (the midpoint in the previous year). It is not a situation that any Australian miner can afford to tolerate. The mining industry has long been the backbone of the Australian economy. The sector accounts for almost 30 per cent of all jobs in Australia. But the industry has experienced significant declines in recent years as the price of coal fell, as well as the advent of cheaper, cleaner fossil fuels. A significant drop in coal prices in the Australian dollar has severely affected the profit margin of mining companies. According to a study commissioned by the mining company in 2016-17, the percentage of profits attributable to coal's role as Australia's main source of electricity is falling rapidly. This means that coal companies' overall profit margins will likely fall as low as 25 per cent in 2016-17. This would be about 40 per cent below what was predicted back in 2014-15. The sector's biggest players are now facing a significant problem. As Australian mining companies have shown, it is not easy to reduce the size of the workforce required for their operations and maintain profitability under these difficult circumstances. Australia's mining dividend will not increase until the mining sector is able to identify effective ways to reduce employee costs and maintain profitability under difficult economic conditions.

Nt seeks clarification over ministers illegal access to sensitive information about US citizens, says Snowden

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is considering whether members of the department's legal staff have been accessing sensitive intelligence information on US citizens, two US officials have told US media.

In a letter obtained by the Guardian, the officials said one of the officials who worked for the Obama administration had shared classified intelligence about a member of the Obama administration on US soil.

In a separate report released to the Guardian on Friday, the agency said it had received intelligence from a senior executive at a US firm which said that the NSA contractor who leaked a classified document on Tuesday had been carrying on a secret relationship with an American national who is a foreign intelligence service (AFP), "a situation which has not previously been publicised".

In response, the NSA has declined to comment.

The Obama administration has faced sharp criticism for seeking to gain access to the data of its US citizens including those in the US armed forces, but the agency has responded by highlighting that its actions are "to protect US national security" from foreign governments.

One of the officials told the Guardian that the NSA's legal staff had been examining data for at least six months in an effort to understand why a person whose identity was concealed was "transacting in foreign currency, and whether he is involved in any sort of terrorist activity."

DHS and the Treasury Department declined to comment on the intelligence source's allegations, but in an email to the Guardian on Sunday the two departments described the alleged breach as routine.

"We do not comment on individual investigations. All of the actions taken to safeguard national security depend on our ongoing foreign intelligence collection activities and activities on US soil and on our efforts to target foreign nationals who pose an imminent threat to our national security," said an email from the DHS to the Guardian.

The NSA declined to comment when asked for comment by the Guardian.

The Guardian report also said the agency had a contract with the US firm that sells cyber security products to US agencies for information gathering in the context of counter-terrorism and anti-money laundering investigations.

The report also said that a senior US law enforcement official who has been working with the contractor for at least four years had been involved in discussions regarding the information that was passed to the Guardian and the Washington Post on Tuesday.

The US official declined to comment on the intelligence source's allegations, but in the same email to the Guardian described the contractor as "a highly respected and trusted source of foreign intelligence" and said his relationship with a US official had become "increasingly tense".

The Obama administration has been under intense scrutiny after it was revealed that the agency had access to the raw data of US citizens for years in th

"It's one thing to make a promise to give $100 to a child for something no longer available, but to do so with a promise to build a new centre that no-one's going to use... that's a betrayal," she said.

Bribery and corruption charges

The new centre, set to cost $1.3 million to build, will be at the former Dickson camp in Dandenong in Melbourne's north.

The project is being funded through a $3.35 million grant from the Health Department.

Dickson is a former mining town north of Brisbane with a population of about 7,000 people.

The Dandenong residents and some of the community centre's staff have voiced concerns about the proposed changes to the community centre which they believe will have a negative impact on the community.

The city was planning on building a new community centre in Dandenong's Dandenong Park, which is in the heart of the heart of Dickson's community centre.

But the construction could be stalled, according to city councillors.

The council will hold a meeting on the proposal on Monday to discuss plans to move the site on Saturday, June 20.

Centroc chief backs water pipeline plan to sell for money to benefit people who live on the ground, including those living below the poverty line

Kanwa's campaign in Kanwa Township against a proposed $4 million Kinder Morgan pipeline has been met with an unusual response from the city's business community. A spokesman for the American Beverage Association of Greater Toronto (AABOT) told the Star-Telegram the association's members are aware of the local fight but there is "no indication that this is what Kanwa wants to do."

In an email to the Star-Telegram, AABOT spokesman Mike Gellier said the company is in "open dialogue" with Kanwa's council.

"There are always trade-offs that must be made for any project," Gellier said. "This one particular project has become the focus of the attention of some people, so the association is in close contact with the council and their members."

The Star-Telegram reported a number of residents in the town of Kanwa spoke out against the $4 million project on Facebook and spoke out in local media.

"The city is paying money to get people out and into the cold for a project they oppose," one resident wrote on Facebook.

According to a news release, there is some local opposition to the pipeline, but most residents opposed the project on the basis that it would kill people in the area and hurt businesses. Some residents spoke out against the pipeline through the media, saying it "goes against the entire nature of the place and the values that have made the community what it is."

The Star-Telegram reported that the city's Economic Development department is working with groups working against the project such as the Canadian Red Cross, the Indigenous Alliance in Toronto and a number of local non-profit organizations in order to help them find people to give evidence at the hearing for the local opposition.

Kanwa residents have not been the only ones who spoke against the project. The city's economic development department, the Toronto Regional District, the city hall branch of Toronto's human services department and the Toronto Parks Foundation are working to meet with concerned residents and residents of Kanwa to get them to voice their opinions.

If the city does move forward with the pipeline, a group of Kanawans, the town of Kanwa's business community, the community in Kanwa and its Mayor, Tom Mieser, will fight to stop the project.

"We don't want these Kinder Morgan pipelines, whether they're at the western border of the community, in the city or in the north end of the city," Kanawans told the Star-Telegram. "We feel like it goes against everything that Kanwa stands for. In a

Few surprises in federal budget. The government is not only not raising taxes on people making more than $150,000. It's not raising any taxes at all. It's taking no money at all from anyone in the middle of the income distribution. It's raising taxes on people making under $50,000 by $1.1 trillion. In fact, as our friends at Tax Notes show, the average family in the United States made less than $25,000 last year, in large part because of corporate taxes. The government will therefore spend over $20 trillion on tax cuts while cutting the national debt by less than 3.9 percent of GDP, after tax revenue is factored in. The federal government is cutting spending in the most dramatic way since the Great Depression. Under Obama, the federal government has taken more money from people of all income and level levels than ever before. By contrast, under George W. Bush, it took just $1.9 trillion. To be clear, the Obama tax cut is just a partial tax cut. The White House has been making good on it all year. But it's not even close to $1.1 trillion in total cuts. This is not just because Obama, according to the Tax Policy Center, has added a net 2.1 percent to GDP over the past year. It's because the amount in the Obama budget for "mechanical tax cuts and other targeted spending has ballooned more than $1.7 trillion." The Obama budget for fiscal 2014 provides a snapshot of the tax system as of this week:

As you can see, there are major tax cuts for the wealthy, large spending cuts for government programs such as Social Security and Medicare, cuts in health-care spending, and tax increases on a wide array of businesses. The budget also creates new taxes on businesses with profits and interests in the federal government, which will raise an estimated $100 billion a year to pay for the tax cuts (but not as much as the Bush tax cuts, at least not yet). It also requires a net decrease in revenue to meet those spending needs. But it's hardly the only tax cut that's been done in this manner. Under Bush, after Bush left office, the president gave up tax cuts of all kinds. For example, a whopping 22 percent of revenue from business taxes was devoted to income taxes. Under Obama, the government has done just the opposite. A big chunk of Bush's $500 billion tax cuts went to wealthy households, while about $150 billion went to corporations and individuals. In 2011, according to one analysis, the average household in the United States lost $1,000 in tax revenue. So, how much of this is tax cuts of the wealthy and the other is from the budget? The answer: not much. Unde

Dale Johnston - Canberra Raiders

What a week to be honest. The boys are back, after a long time off, and this year's big boys have been better than expected! That being said, I'm hoping for a bit more from the back half of Canberra Raiders this year. I love to watch the boys who come through the youth ranks and we've seen a lot of these youngsters go on to make their careers on the professional ranks, but we're going to need more than a handful of them to make a case for making the team this year. We're not just going to be watching a group of good guys in camp like we did last season, we're going to need that whole side to deliver their best all the way to the Super Rugby Round of 16! As far as the young guns, I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do. I've seen some great performances with a young side, and this is going to be a pretty tough test for them and everyone else to get a taste of, but let's hope we can see a little bit more of them in the next couple of years. A big shout out to my boys who are doing fantastically, giving it their all, and I'm looking forward to seeing what we have in the next year!

Wildlife parks join devil breeding program as'red flag' for state, officials say

SAN ANTONIO -- A new state bill would create rules to prohibit some Texas devil culls and set up a new program of red-flagged red-tailed hawks culling wild populations of feral mink.

The legislation, introduced Wednesday by Sen. Donna Campbell, R-Dallas, is part of a statewide effort to reduce populations of the marsupials. It's a reaction to recent cases of dead mink, including the death of a 4-year-old boy in New Braunfels who also died of the disease.

The legislation also would create new wildlife parks with a dedicated section dedicated to red-tailed hawks and use money from those parks for conservation programs and monitoring.

The legislation is modeled after the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation's Red-Tailed Hawk Conservation and Red-Tailed Hawk Control Program in Texas. The foundation is charged with monitoring the population of Red-tailed Hawks in and around Red River Gorge State Park. That program was disbanded during the height of the Florida wild-cat disease epidemic in 2008.

"We're dealing with a problem here. The problem is the numbers," Campbell said during an editorial board meeting last week. "There are red-tailed hawks around Red River Gorge State Park. There are red-tailed hawks in other parts of Texas. It's not a joke. It's really a concern for the public."

Campbell was able to introduce the legislation on Wednesday during an afternoon hearing of the Senate Environment Committee.

"This is the first thing that you will likely hear from the Governor when he is out of office next January," the senator said.

The Senate vote came about two weeks after Texas lawmakers announced they were reauthorizing $2.5 million worth of state grants to keep the state's red-tailed hawks in check while the wild population reaches a critical inflection point. There are already fewer than 50 hawks left.

The Red-Tailed Hawk Conservation and Red-Tailed Hawk Control Program, which has focused almost exclusively on preventing the wild population from expanding, received $1.1 million in new state funding through the 2015-16 fiscal year.

RELATED: Red-tailed hawk killed by man after wildlife park visitors spotted on cellphone

The Red-Tailed Hawk Conservation and Red-Tailed Hawk Control Program program has been on a waiting list for more than a decade, with at least 18 such applications submitted since 2000, according to its website.

The bill was introduced at the same time as a bill to allow for the statewide adoption of regulations and practices to protect red-tailed hawks from the wild, Campbell said.
